Elizabeth Mitchell, b. Aug 1835, Georgia , d. Aft Jun 1900 (Age ~ 64 years) |
Married |
The 1870 census has Elisabeth Ogletree head of the household with what are presumably her children George, 15; and Flex, 2.
The 1880 census shows George Mitchell head, with Elizabeth Ogelsbea mother, and Phelix and Charles Oglesby brothers living in the household.
This George Mitchell appears as George Oglesby in subsequent census.
George's FamilySearch death record shows his parents as Sam Oglesby and Elizabeth Mitchell, both born in Georgia. Felix's death record shows father W. O. Oglesby and no mother nor place of birth for his parents. I think Felix's father was most likely Sam, the same as George's and Charles', as implied (stated?) on the 1880 census.
On the 1860 census S. Oglesby, male; E. Oglesby, female; and G. Oglesby, male, appear twice. The first time 9 Jul 1860 on page 108, the second time 18 Jul 1910 on page 149.
At first glance these Oglesby's do not appear to be the same family, the ages of the 1st being 48, 26, and 6; and of the 2nd 40, 30, and 5. However, these two Oglesby families are preceeded by the same Mitchell and Brewer families both times, so perhaps these three families were listed twice on the same census for some reason.
The page 149 S. Oglesby is living two farms up the road from James Mitchell and wife Lucinda, and next to them live Sarah Cotton and her children. And they are two farms down the road from S. & L. Mitchel and their family.
James Mitchell subsequently married Sarah Cotton, and Felix Oglesby subsequently had 3 children by Sarah's daughter Minerva before marrying Fannie Patterson.
Ancestry.com has a record for Elizabeth Mitchell in its "U. S., Social Security Applications and Claims Index, 1936-2007" database listing her spouse as Samuel Oglesby and child as Charles Gideon Oglesby.
Find-A-Grave says Felix T. Oglesby is the son of Samuel and Elizabeth George Oglesby. I believe this to be in error.

S. is a farmer and declared no real or personal estate.
The 2nd next farm down the census is that of James & Lucinda Mitchell, and the next is that of Sarah Cotton and 3 of her children by George Plowman. Subsequenty Sarah will have a daughter Minervia by James Mitchell, and this daugher will have children by Felix Oglesby.

George Mitchell is a farmer. Elizabeth Ogelsbea is a widow.
I can't figure out why George gave his surname as Mitchell. Elizabeth, Phelix, and Charles Oglesby are clearly designated his mother and brothers on the census.
