Quisling

Share

From Wikipedia

Quisling, after Norwegian fascist politician Vidkun Quisling, is a term used to describe traitors and collaborationists. It was most commonly used for fascist political parties and military and paramilitary forces in occupied Allied countries which collaborated with Axis occupiers in World War II Europe, as well as for their members and other collaborators.

That Quisling’s name should be applied to denote the whole phenomenon of collaborationism is probably due to the place of Norway on the list of countries occupied by the Third Reich. There were few Polish collaborators, other than the Volksdeutsche, and Denmark fell within a few hours. Thus, Norway was the first country where local, non-German, fascist parties took part in the conquest of their own country.

In contemporary usage, “Quisling” is synonymous with “traitor”, and particularly applied to politicians who appear to favour the interests of other nations or cultures over their own.

  • In Max Brook’s novel World War Z, “quisling” refers to a human that had broken down psychologically due to the presence of zombies and thus begun acting like a zombie. These humans are traitors and will attack other humans mindlessly, but will not fight zombies despite zombies attacking quislings.

Last week while I was showering at Valarie’s Robert had Anita Henry on his show. She volunteered for the Proposition K Committee and made a comment that medical patients shouldn’t smoke in public. And also comments that they shouldn’t smoke in the presence of children.

I needed to shower but she was still on when I got out and I called in.

I ended up calling her a quisling and she said, “You can kiss my fat ass.” And I hung up.

Robert said she would be on his show today and asked me to come by. So I headed that way after I woke up. I guess it took me an hour to walk there from the beach. It was the end of Thomas’ show when I got there, Robert hadn’t started yet.

I guess that was about 9:30.

I spoke for a few minutes, and then waited interminably while he droned on and on about something in Iraq. Anita Henry showed up just before 11. And he continued to drone on and on.

I do believe he read the same article twice.

I guess it was about 11:30 when I finally thought I was going to get to talk about the whole point of my being there.

But I didn’t.

I’m still trying to remember exactly what happened. I know Anita was talking about how she recently had to start working and I asked where she medicated and she pretty much said it wasn’t any of my damn business.

And then Robert interrupted me, as he always does.

And Anita said I’d had every advantage.

I asked her to name one.

She replied I was a white male.

I responded, “Racist and Sexist!”

And repeated the question, “Name one advantage…”

And then Robert interrupted and was evidently going to do what he always does, which is rattle on and on and on and on about something completely unrelated until nobody could remember what we were talking about and nobody cares.

He seems to be very good at judging when the people around him have finally given up trying to make their point and forgotten whatever it was they were going to say, and then asking them, “What were you going to say…”

I wasn’t going to let him do this to me again.

Like he did when Mike Rotkin was in the studio. No sooner were the words out of my mouth than he and Rotkin prattled on for 20 minutes about god knows what while I sat there steaming, polite enough not to interrupt their side-stepping. Until I got fed up and left.

Well, this time Anita Henry, after asking what my disability was (in an accusitory tone) made disparaging remarks, something along the lines of she was leaving the studio because she was afraid to be in my presence. And Robert backing her. I do believe he did state my behavior was out of line.

Well I think the whole thing was out of line.

And staged.
