RIP Jane

The buses have been on strike for nearly a month now, so I rented a car to drive to Hayward yesterday. I usually take the bus but with the strike, the only way to get there is on Greyhound and they only have a bus going up at 6:20 and 9:30, and the 6:20 is impossible for me to make staying on the Church groups.

There isn’t a bus coming back until 8:00 pm, and there’s no way I can walk from the Greyhound station to whatever church the group is sleeping in, so that was out unless I wanted to take the bus up, rent a hotel room and take the bus back the next day.

I already had to get a hotel room Saturday. Ron made a mistake and thought he could only take twelve people, and it wasn’t straightened out until after I left the concentration camp lot to get a room before they were all gone. So I ended up charging $100 I wouldn’t have charged otherwise … but I had been looking for an excuse to soak for an hour or so in a hot bath-tub. Been over a year since I’ve done that. I just wish it had been during the week so I wouldn’t have had to pay peak rate.

But, anyway, as I was coming back I took a wrong turn and got lost, and then found myself across the street from Jane’s house. There was a fire engine, and ambulance and a police car out front. Flashing lights…and checking Overgrow today I see my worst fears are true: http://www.overgrow.com/edge/showthread.php?t=706327&onlyuser=&perpage=15&pagenumber=1

In that thread is an article that came out in March by Fred Gardener. This is the first time I’ve read it: http://www.counterpunch.org/gardner03122005.html

And I just got the ten minute warning at the library computer, so I won’t be able to edit this before I publish it.
